Orlando Pirates vs Maritzburg United: Fadlu makes emotional return to Orlando

Friday night’s game between Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United will see Fadlu Davids make an emotional return to Orlando Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

This will be the first time that Davids returns to Orlando since leaving Pirates at the end of last season following a rather underwhelming campaign.

At the time, Davids was a co-coach alongside Mandla Ncikazi who remained behind to serve as an assistant to Jose Riveiro when he was appointed.

Davids took his time to find a new job, and when he did, it was huge as Josef Zinnbauer parachuted him to Russia to coach FC Moscow.

However, things didn’t work according to plans as Davids was back in the country after a few weeks following the sacking of Zinnbauer and his technical team.

Davids knows all about the majority of Pirates players having coached them, and that could work well for Maritzburg United on the night.

The fact that he has four former Pirates players in his team is another advantage as they could also have something to add ahead of the match.

Kwame Peprah, goalkeeper coach Wayne Sandilands, Wayde Jooste and Tebogo Tlolane were all, and just recently, on the books of Pirates.
