Blindness NOT an obstacle | Orlando Pirates legend obtains his PhD!

An Orlando Pirates legend has defied the odds of having gone blind in the last couple of years to obtain his doctoral degree.

An Orlando Pirates legend has defied the odds of having gone blind in the last couple of years to obtain his doctoral degree.

Bernard ‘Shoes’ Lushozi obtained his PhD in Learning Support Guidance and Counseling under Educational Psychology.

Lushozi graduated at the University of Pretoria in September 2021, as confirmed by veteran broadcaster and sports anchor Robert Marawa.

Lushozi, 57, has been a school principal for almost 20 years but it was in December 2018 when his eyesight started deteriorating.

It took Lushozi five years to complete his PhD, and he continues to wait for the Department of Education to find out if he can be allowed to go back to teaching.

Lushozi was a member and captain of the Pirates squad that lifted the CAF Champions League trophy in 1995.

Lushozi joins former rival and Kaizer Chiefs legend Howard ‘The Rock’ Freese on the list of former footballers with doctoral degrees.
