Orlando Pirates left-back training on his own – report

Orlando Pirates have a decision to make regarding the future of their left-back who’s considered unfortunate since joining them in 2018.

Orlando Pirates left-back Bongani Sam is reportedly training on his own following his release from Moroka Swallows in January.

Sam was on loan at Swallows but Dobsonville-based outfit terminated that contract on the back of a player strike that erupted in December 2023.

And while the expectations were that he would return to Pirates, it seems that’s not the case, according to Soccer Laduma.

Sam, 26, had featured 13 times for the Dube Birds this season prior to his departure and he appeared to be enjoying his football again.

However, he may have to start over if Pirates don’t take him back in the next few weeks and months.

ORLANDO PIRATES LEAVE DEFENDER TO TRAIN ON HIS OWN

“Since he left Swallows, he has been training on his own. He’s still around Johannesburg trying to figure out things but he could not go back to Pirates as he was still considered to be on loan at Swallows,” said a source known to the publication.

WHO’S PAYING BONGANI SAM’S SALARY?

While Sam is still contracted to Pirates, the same publication reports that he’s actually not being paid by the Soweto giants.

He was getting his full salary from Swallows but with him having been dismissed, Sam is now not getting any money from either club.

To make matters worse, the 26-year-old’s contract with Pirates is reported to be coming to an end in June.

Chances of Sam getting a new deal are very slim given how often Pirates have had to loan him out despite signing him in 2018.
