Orlando Pirates triumphed in dramatic fashion in Saturday’s Soweto derby Nedbank Cup semi-final at a sold-out FNB Stadium.

Orlando Pirates triumphed in Saturday’s Soweto derby Nedbank Cup semi-final against rivals Kaizer Chiefs at a sold-out FNB Stadium.

The Buccaneers grabbed bragging rights thanks to a 2-1 win in extra-time.

Orlando Pirates opened the scoring via Kermit Erasmus in the 14th minute, but Kaizer Chiefs levelled matters in the 79th minute through Yusuf Maart.

The match was dead-locked at 1-1 after full-time and went into added time.

Sandile Mthethwa proved to be the hero for the Buccaneers when he grabbed the winner in the 114th minute of play.

Orlando Pirates will play the winner of Sunday’s second semi-final between Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United in the final on Saturday, 27 May.

The overall winner will walk away R7 million richer and will also earn a berth in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup tournament.
