Orlando Pirates in talks to re-sign academy product 

Having reportedly already clinched their first signing ahead of the next season, Orlando Pirates are not resting on the laurels on securing others.

Having reportedly already clinched their first signing ahead of the next season, Orlando Pirates are not resting on the laurels on securing others.

Pirates are believed to have taken steps to avoid a potential keeper crisis next season by signing TS Galaxy’s impressive Melusi Buthelezi.

Now having wrapped that up, it looks like Pirates have also been hard at work, trying to secure some signings on the opposite side of the pitch. Several attackers have already been linked to the Buccaneers, including the likes of Katlego Otladisa, Ashley Cupido, Ranga Chivaviro, Mokete Mogaila and Benson Omala

While there has not been much in the form of latest developments on those particular fronts in recent weeks, besides on the case of Mogaila, it is now believed that Pirates are looking at bringing back one of their academy products. According to the latest reports, the Sea Robbers are already in talks to re-sign All Stars defensive midfielder Lehlohonolo Mtshali.

According to well placed sources, the player’s (Mtshali) consistent displays led to him being monitored by the Buccaneers and a few other clubs in the elite league.” Wrote Soccer-Laduma. Furthermore, one of their sources also spoke on the possibility of his return to Pirates.

“The club have been following his progress and are keen to have his services again. Initial talks have been started between the parties although Pirates face competition from a few other clubs for the player’s services”. Said a source to the publication.

Pirates are believed to be ready to let go of a couple of midfielders with the likes of Ben Motshwari, Goodman Mosele and Fortune Makaringe’s futures still seemingly uncertain at the club. That alone, has fuelled the talk that Mtshali is a player they could really be looking towards.

It has to be said, however, that Pirates do not have the best of fortunes with re-signing their academy products. The most recent example being Ntsako Makhubela who, after struggling for game time, was eventually sent back to Golden Arrows where his now thriving again. They will be hoping for a different outcome if they do, indeed, end up signing Mtshali.
