Orlando Pirates defender reflects on his Soweto Derby own goal

Since the infamous own goal, Ndah was nowhere to be seen until he made a surprise appearance for Pirates in the MTN8 final.

Orlando Pirates defender Olisah Ndah has reflected on his costly own goal against Kaizer Chiefs earlier this year.

Ndah misjudged the flight of the ball to head it in his net for an own goal late in the game. The goal gave Amakhosi all three points back in February this year.

Since the infamous own goal, Ndah never played for the Buccaneers again until last Saturday in the MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates defender not affected by Soweto Derby incident

The Nigerian international was called in 34 minutes and managed to nullify the Downs attack throughout the game. pirated won 3-1 on penalties after the game ended 0-0 after extra time.

“Concerning what you said in the first question, I don’t think it affected – it was just a couple of days,” Ndah said to the media.

“I wasn’t fully focused on what was going on outside. So what was important was my teammates (who supported me) and to come back stronger. It is a healthy team, healthy competition.”

“It has been difficult for me and I want to say thank you to the coaching staff, the physios for helping me through everything and I’m happy to be back and to contribute to the team,” said the Pirates defender.

In his first season at Pirates, Ndah was solid at the back and was finally rewarded when he was called by the Nigerian Football team to represent them at the 2022 African Cup of Nations.

During preseason, reports claimed Ndah wanted to leave the club, but his agent Mike Makaab has since denied the rimours.
