Orlando Pirates hand Makhaula a new deal

According to iDiski Times, the Buccaneers have handed Makhelene Makhaula a new contract despite his lack of playing time.

The Kagiso-born midfield star arrived from AmaZulu in January 2023 but has failed to nail down a regular place in the first team. He’s made four appearances across all competitions this term, winning the MTN8 title. Makhaula will reportedly extend his stay until June 2025. A place in midfield is far from guaranteed with Thabang Monare, Siphelo Baloni, Miguel Timm and even Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo vying for two spots at the base of the engine room.

BUCS STARLET HAS OPTIONS

Relebohile Mofokeng made his Buccaneers breakthrough in May last year. The creative midfielder, who can also operate in wide areas, was with the senior side at the outset of 2023-24 when they travelled to Spain on pre-season. He impressed on tour and was invited for a trial at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League. The teenager has confirmed that he hasn’t received feedback yet though and also feels there wasn’t much of a difference between him and the local youngsters.

“I’d say there’s not much of a difference,” Mofokeng told the media

“I didn’t get the feedback [yet] but then let’s hope for the best.

“I don’t think there’s much of a difference between us, the PSL players and the players at Wolves, but I’m just hoping for the best.”

If Pirates can attract an offer from one of England’s wealthy clubs, it would be almost impossible to refuse.
