ORLANDO PIRATES IN CRUNCH CONTRACT TALKS WITH BEN MOTSHWARI

“We are in talks with Pirates over a new deal. There is still time because the current deal expires in June,” said Mkhize.

“We can’t just jump on to another team because Pirates have been good to him, and they see him as an important player to them,” he continued.

“Everything will depend on how the negotiations end. We are in advanced talks, and these things don’t just take a day because there is just a lot to agree on.

“It is his future, and he’s not getting any younger. So, he must get a deal that’s in line with that.

“Ben isn’t taking it badly that he’s no longer starting matches. He understands that competition for places is tight, especially because more players have come in since the new coach has joined Pirates.

“In the previous contract, he played many matches. He will stay for as long as Pirates see his importance. The fact that they have agreed to open talks with us means they still need him. He’s also willing to fight for the team,” concluded Mkhize.

And his arrival could somehow add to Motshwari’s lack of game time under coach Jose Riveiro, and that’s something he should be prepared to deal with.

Motshwari has made just 13 league appearances so far this season, and mostly from the bench.
