Ex Orlando Pirates coach lands top gig at Dutch champions!

A former Orlando Pirates first team coach has landed a top coaching job at Dutch Eredivisie champions Feyenoord!

Former Orlando Pirates Goalkeeper coach Jyri Nieminen has been named as the new Feyenoordgoalkeeper coach.

Nieminen spent one and a half seasons at the Buccaneers after joining them in 2019.

He then moved to MLS outfit New York Red Bulls in 2021. He has since secured a blockbuster move to Eredivisie side Feyenoord!

“Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper coach Jyri Nieminen has been appointed as new goalkeeper coach of Dutch giants Feyenoord.” an IdiskiTimes report read.

Nieminen, 35, joined Pirates ahead of the 2019/20 season to replace Andrew Sparks, but left in December 2020 to join New York Red Bulls.

“The Finland-born coach had been in the United States until make his return to Europe, joining the 2022/23 Eredivisie champions, as confirmed by the club on Thursday.”

In other news, Orlando Pirates are set to jet out to Spain for their upcoming pre-season camp.

The Buccaneers reported for duty last week at the High-Performance Centre in Tshwane. The players were medically assessed and next travel to Rustenburg where physical training begins!

José Riveiro and his squad will be based in Marabella from July 9 to July 21, 2023 for their pre-season camp.

In Spain, Orlando Pirates will face Maccabi Tel Aviv, Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle and local Spanish second tier side UD Las Palmas.

Other teams that will be camped in Marbella include Bournemouth, Charlton Athletic, Al Ain FC, Espanyol, Chelsea’s under-18s and more!
