‘Orlando Pirates can still catch Sundowns’ – Bucs legend

Orlando Pirates legend Chansa says Sundowns can collapse like Kaizer Chiefs back in 2020 when they lost the league having led by 13 points.

Orlando Pirates legend Isaac Chansa believes the Buccaneers can still catch Mamelodi Sundowns and win the DStv Premiership.

Masandawana are 13 points ahead of their nearest rivals Pirates, but have two games in hand.

Should the Buccaneers fail to win their next three games, the Brazilians could just win a handful of matches to wrap up the title.

Chansa, who had two stints with the Sea Robbers, believes the title race is not over.

The last time Orlando Pirates won the league, the Zambian midfielder was still playing for the Soweto Giants.

Orlando Pirates legend Chansa says Sundowns are not home yet

“Kaizer Chiefs lost the league in just ten minutes of the last match after leading by 19 points or over, so that can happen to Sundowns too, anything is possible,” Chansa told GOAL.

“Football is crazy, Sundowns can still lose. I know they are the best team, but they can still lose. It’s still early, this is football we are talking about here,” the Orlando Pirates legend continued.

“Pirates are doing well, their position speaks a lot. And I believe if they push in these last ten or 11 games, they can still catch Sundowns and win the league.

“Okay, what if Sundowns lose four or five of their remaining games and Pirates win theirs? The race is still on and Pirates can still catch them.

“Maybe let’s talk when we only left with two games, possibly that’s where we can say they are the champions, but now, I say the race is still on.”

The Orlando Pirates legend believes Sundowns are likely to drop points despite their unbeaten run this season.

The two teams played three times this season in all competitions, with both teams winning once. Their recent match ended 1-1 at the Loftus Versfeld last month.
