It wasn’t a classic by any means, but Pirates got the job done to beat Chiefs 1-0 and leapfrog the Glamour Boys on the table. They’ve also got two games in hand. Where that leaves Amakhosi is anyone’s guess, with another underwhelming result just before a long international break. Chiefs enjoyed 58% of the ball but produced just one shot on target.

Jose Riveiro used five substitutes in the shape of Nkosinathi Sibisi, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, Bandile Shandu, the supremely gifted teenager Relebohile Mofokeng and Vincent Pule. Other players not even called upon from the bench included Monnapule Saleng, Zakhele Lepasa, Karim Kimvuidi and goalkeeper Richard Ofori. That’s serious depth.
