Mmodi’s impressive performances for Arrows had earned him a Bafana Bafana call up with Pirates and Sundowns reportedly now keen to sign him.

Mmodi has caught the eye of both Pirates and Sundowns

Mmodi has consistently put his best foot forward since signing for Arrows, and has formed a key part of their attack since. His use of speed and trickery have also caught the eye of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos. Despite an early clash with Broos over passport issues, which delayed his initial call up, Mmodi quickly regained favour with the veteran Belgian mentor. Although yet to play under him, he was part of the squad that failed to qualify for the 2022 Qatar , following the controversial loss to Ghana.

But besides that initial disappointment from Bafana Bafana’s failed qualifying campaign, Mmodi returned to Arrows and continued to be a thorn in the flesh of his opponents. Now, according to sources speaking to The Citizen, even though Pirates and Sundowns want to sign the player for next season, the player has other ideas instead.

He would prefer overseas move

“His contract is ending in June I think. There are a lot of interested suitors locally but he is not interested in them at the moment. He has set his eyes on a move overseas and there is something brewing that his people are trying to set up for him. He can only ‘settle’ for a local move if his dream doesn’t come true,” said the source.

With Mmodi turning 29-years-old this year, it would, perhaps make more sense for his career, if he were to move to a club overseas. Besides the likelihood of being exposed to a better level of football, it would also mean more financial security for the player. Pirates and Sundowns are also not short of options in attacking midfield and wide areas of the pitch.
