‘Nine years is a long time’ says Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson

Having last won a trophy back in 2015, the Nedbank Cup was Johnson and Chiefs’ last chance to salvage silverware.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson says the club is not in a position to throw in youngsters from their development programme.

Exciting teenager Mfundo Vilakazi was promoted to the first team this month having impressed in the DStv Diski Challenge.

Johnson though has not promoted many of the young Chiefs players to the first-team.

“It’s not that we don’t believe in them but , nine years is a long time [without winning a trophy]. For them to maintain [the culture of the club], it’s a difficult task.

“But I do believe the ones we have are more than capable doing something. We only need that run of the luck and I always say ‘we will rise, we will rise’,” said the Kaizer Chiefs coach.

Having last won a trophy back in 2015, the Nedbank Cup was Amakhosi’s last chance to salvage silverware. However, the Soweto giants were eliminated by Milford FC.

Cavin Johnson hopeful Chiefs will rise again

Johnson remains optimistic regarding the future.

“I think we have a lot of other things intact as far this generation is concerned,” he said as per Times Live.

Chiefs are in action this weekend against Moroka Swallows.
