One Kaizer Chiefs fan last season said Mr Motaung Jr is ‘building his legacy on a wetland’ as another campaign threatens to peter out in mediocrity.

Some fans certainly think so. @TheeUltimateLee on X, last season it must be said, reckoned Bobby Motaung, Kaizer Motaung Jr, Jessica Motaung and co aren’t fit for the roles entrusted to them within the club. It’s a bold theory, but one worth considering. Has Mr Motaung Jr achieved the objectives laid down to him as the sporting director of Kaizer Chiefs football club? It’s doubtful. One fan even said he was ‘building his legacy on a wetland.’
Ouch.

News of Molefi Ntseki’s exit on Monday was no great surprise. His results were poor, the team didn’t really have a distinctive playing identity and then unfortunate incidences of fan violence aimed at the former Bafana boss made his position untenable. Chiefs fans also don’t need to be reminded that the club’s last taste of silverware was the 2014-15 DStv Premiership title. What exactly is the plan to put that right? There doesn’t seem to be one, in truth, while family members of Dr Motaung continue to enjoy comfortable roles within the framework of one of Africa’s most popular and profitable clubs.

So, what’s next at Naturena?
‘Uncertain times’ because an overdone phrase during the pandemic but it’s pretty apt for Chiefs. In fact, the only certain thing at Naturena is consistent uncertainty, and that’s no good for supporters demanding results and a coherent plan. Cavin Johnson will take charge of the club on an interim basis until a long-term solution is sought, but can fans trust the board to make the correct appointment with the right motives? Who knows, we certainly don’t. Amakhosi face in-form Golden Arrows on Saturday 28th October with kickoff at 15:30.
