More European destinations named for Orlando Pirates’ Evidence Makgopa!

Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa has certainly made an impression while in Bafana Bafana colours.

Makgopa was Bafana Bafana’s main striker at their recent successful Afcon campaign, and has since assumed that role for Pirates.

The player was not necessarily first choice, nor a favourite for many Bafana fans heading into the tournament. That seemed to be vindicated as he was ineffective, apart from winning a penalty in the opener against Mali. Makgopa’s tournament got progressively better as fans started to warm up to his selfless role for the team. He then added a goal to those performances, an impressive finish in the victory against Morocco.

It then became apparent that it was more than South Africans that were growing to appreciate Makgopa. The Pirates striker was immediately linked with a move to either France or Belgium at the end of the season. According to Soccer-Laduma, he could easily be destined for a move to Poland or Norway too. 

Makgopa to leave Pirates for Poland or Norway?

“News that has landed on the Siya crew’s desk indicates that teams from Poland and Norway have enquired about his services.The identity of the teams has not been revealed, as has the extent of their enquiries at this stage. However, due to their respective transfer windows being still open, it is understood the clubs are keen on landing Bafana’s emerging marksman before deadline.” Wrote the publication.

That represents a huge upturn on the reputation and stature of Makgopa in a short space of time. The target man was nowhere near one of the first names on the Pirates team sheet until the end of 2023. He first manage to endear himself to Buccaneer supporters by scoring the winner in the Soweto Derby earlier this season. He then did the same for Bafana fans with that goal against Morocco.

At just the age of 23, there is still a lot to come from Makgopa, could his best come in Europe? Well Pirates, up to you!
