Ntseki: How Chiefs bounced back from Sundowns loss

The loss to Mamelodi Sundowns was not easy and Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki reveals how they bounced back.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has revealed how his men bounced back from the 2-1 loss they suffered against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ntseki led Chiefs to a 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United on Wednesday night just after their loss against Sundowns in the MTN8 last weekend.

He said Chiefs players received psychological help and singled out his keeper Brandon Petersen who has come under criticism of late.

Petersen conceded a goal from an error against Sundowns and the fans have been unimpressed with his contribution.

Despite the criticism from a section of Chiefs fans, Ntseki says the technical team is fully behind Petersen and the rest of the squad.

“The most important thing is that he (Petersen) is a leader,” Ntseki said in Durban.

“We are talking of a captain (on the field since Khune was on the bench), but we need to thank the club because currently it has employed a mental coach and he is doing wonders for our players and at the same time the mental coach works very closely with the tactical element of the game.

“When it comes to Brandon, we have had situations like this before. We have had moments where we have lost the game, we have had moments where he saved us.”

CHIEFS BOSS BACKS KEEPER PETERSEN’S QUALITY

As a skipper in the absence of Itumeleng Khune, it seems Petersen has definitely won Ntseki’s heart as he praises his leadership.

He revealed that the likes of Khune and Bontle Molefe including Bruce Bvuma are behind the Cape Town-born net minder.

“In terms of his quality and being the leader of the team, we stood by him and the goalkeeping department, support from Khune, support from Bruce Bvuma, support from Bontle Molefi and the whole team,” he added.

“I think what is very important is that not every game we would have a good game, mistakes do happen in football.

“If we always count on the mistakes, we would end up having nobody to play for the team. I think we are very proud of his performance apart from what happened last week and those are things that will happen in the game.

“We all know what happened last week, but it was important for us to stand together to give him confidence.”
