Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena is keeping Orlando Pirates guessing ahead of the MTN8 final on Saturday evening.

The Brazilians could be without key players this weekend but Mokwena had decided to remain mum on which players are ruled out of the clash.

One name that has caught fans’ interest is that of Lucas Ribeiro. The 24-year-old Brazilian striker scored the only goal when the two teams played earlier this season.

Mokwena not giving anything away ahead of final

Mokwena has confirmed a number of key players that could miss the Wafa Wafa final due to injuries but will only provide the final injury list shortly before kick off time.

“With regards to injury update, there’s a lot of work being done by the medical team which is very good, from the sports science perspective. We have only got a serious injury with Sipho Mbule, who is still out. Thapelo Morena, Thapelo Maseko and Bathusi Aubaas are also out, they won’t make it. Lucas Ribeiro will do a late fitness test, so that’s more or less what we have, and the rest are okay,” Mokwena said.

“There is a possibility of one or two players making it out of the injury list. We have to wait until the final minute to rule anyone out. It’s an important game, we need everybody. The medical team will do the best they can,” he said.

Sundowns are hot favourites going into the final but the Buccaneers are more than capable of causing an upset. Last season, they defeated Masandawana 3-0 in the second leg of the MTN8 semi-final. Jose Riveiro’s side went on to win the final.
