Manqoba Mngqithi’s agent, Mike Makaab, has again addressed reports linking the Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach to Kaizer Chiefs.

Mngqithi has hogged the headlines for months now following the news that his contract with Sundowns is expiring in June.

And while there are divided opinions on whether or not he should stay with Sundowns, reports of him going to Chiefs have gained momentum.

Now, Makaab has taken to the media to publicly reveal that Chiefs have not formally approached ProSport International for the services of Mngqithi.

Furthermore, Makaab said the onus should sit with any club, including Chiefs, if they are interested in signing his client.

The veteran agent said the only time they would recommend a coach to clubs is when that mentor is unknown to those clubs.

MNGQITHI TO KAIZER CHIEFS RUMOURS ADDRESSED

“I have heard a lot of rumours expressing that interest (Kaizer Chiefs), but I can tell you as I am sitting here, we have not had a formal approach from Kaizer Chiefs for Manqoba,” said Makaab on Gagasi FM’s Extratime.

“I don’t think the onus should sit on us to make that approach. It’s a different story if we were introducing a football coach that is not known to clubs in this country, but I don’t think we should make a formal move unless there is interest, a genuine interest from the club itself, not through the media.”

HOW FAR ARE THE TALKS WITH SUNDOWNS

Meanwhile, Makaab provided an update on the ongoing contractual talks between Mngqithi’s stable and Sundowns.

In his own words, the former Orlando Pirates mentor said they are still in discussion with Sundowns over whether or not Mngqithi will stay.

And what both parties agreed on was to sit down after the Nedbank Cup semi-final clash with Stellenbosch FC which is this week.

Makaab intends to meet with Sundowns this week as well as Mngqithi and take instructions on his future, and he expects the matter to be put to rest in the near future.

“We are still in discussion with Mamelodi Sundowns. Manqoba is committed to the club. If the club is keen on retaining his services, which I believe there is a big chance of that happening, then Manqoba will stay at Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said.

“What I did agree with the club is that we would only discuss this after the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup. So, it is my intention to meet with the club this week, my intention to meet with Manqoba this week as well, and hopefully, more clarity and finality will be on the cards during the course of next week. Whatever happens, a decision has to be made sooner than later,” added Makaab.
