Dan Malesela is upbeat about Marumo Gallants’ prospects this season having guided the club to their first victory in the current PSL season on Saturday.

Gallants picked up a big scalp when they secured a 2-1 win over SuperSport United and showed signs of improvement under their new coach.

Marumo Gallants ‘in a good place’

Marumo Gallants are sitting bottom of the DStv Premiership standings just over a third of the way into the season, but just eight points separate them from the top half of the log.

Malesela was appointed as the club’s new head coach last week and the match against SuperSport was his first in charge of the Limpopo club.

The win will certainly boost confidence in the camp and instil faith in the new boss’ ability to save the team from relegation.

“Look, it’s a good space to be in now. When you come to a club and you get your first win, first win for the club as well, so it’s a good thing. We had rain before the match, it was showers of blessings and one is very grateful. But most of all, I’m grateful that the players were listening and adjusted to what we are trying to do,” said Malesela.

“Yes, mistakes here and there I admit, but overall a lot of things they did are not things from somewhere. It’s things they have been doing at training during the week. If things remain this way the future will be bright for the team. We just need to keep on listening and keep on applying what we do at training and things will get better. I am grateful for the effort the players put in.”

Supersport

Gallants face a tricky two-legged playoff against TP Mazembe for a place in the Caf Confederation Cup group stage. The club’s only wins prior to this weekend had come in the continental competition.
