Maritzburg United have promoted three of their DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team players in Asanda Buthelezi, Muzomuhle Ngwane, Phiwayinkosi Zuma.

The club announced the three signings on their official website on Wednesday.

“Maritzburg United are proud to announce the promotion of three players – Asanda Buthelezi, Muzomuhle Ngwane, Phiwayinkosi Zuma – from the club’s reserve side (the Multichoice Diski Challenge league) to the first team,” reads a statement on the Maritzburg site.

The trio have caught the eye in the MDC and have now been rewarded by being handed professional contracts with the Team of Choice.

All three youngsters are from KwaZulu-Natal; Buthelezi hails from Newcastle while Zuma and Ngwane are from right here in the City of Choice, Pietermaritzburg.

According to the club, Ngwane is a central defender while Buthelezi and Zuma are midfielders.

The acquisition of Ngwane comes days after the Team of Choice’s decision to release Rushine de Reuck to Mamelodi Sundowns.

De Reuck’s departure has no doubt left a huge void in Ernst Middendorp’s central defence, and the German mentor had no choice but to fill it in.

The trio could be thrown into the deep end when Maritzburg welcome Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday. Kick-off for the encounter is scheduled for 5PM.
