Manqoba Mngqithi: What’s next for demoted Sundowns coach?

Manqoba Mngqithi is still coming to terms with the fact that he has been demoted by Mamelodi Sundowns after some unsatisfactory results and performances.

The Sundowns management decided to give Rhulani Mokwena the head coaching role with Steve Komphela promoted to the positon of first team coach.

Mngqithi’s agent Mike Makaab has already spoken of his disappointment of the whole situation but said his client wasn’t upset at all.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MANQOBA MNGQITHI?

Mngqithi is a head coach in his own right, and while he may not be upset at the latest developments, he may be tempted to leave Sundowns.

The three coaches worked ‘well‘ together for the past two seasons because the results were there for everyone to see.

However, the swapping of roles may eventually cause a rift among them going forward, and that would only hurt Sundowns.

As Makaab said, Mngqithi is a very mature and humble individual, and he wouldn’t want the legacy he built alongside Komphela and Mokwena at Sundowns to be tainted.

And it is for that reason he may decide to walk away and be a stand alone coach elsewhere and there could be a number of options for him.

For instance, Mngqithi, at one stage in his career, went for an interview at Kaizer Chiefs but they never got back to him.

Amakhosi are struggling, and a section of their fans have started questioning if Arthur Zwane’s appointment as head coach was right.

Could Chiefs be an option for Mngqithi in future? Definitely! But that’s if Zwane is shown the exit door.

Mngqithi’s contract with Sundowns expires at the end of the season, and with that in mind, perhaps this could be his final season at Chloorkop.
