Mamelodi Sundowns latest: TWO PSL records Kaizer Chiefs still hold!

Mamelodi Sundowns have broken so many PSL records this season, but there are TWO records held by Kaizer Chiefs that they CANNOT break!

The Brazilians won the league title race with a PSL record time of 23 games, and that’s just one, but their 2-2 draw against AmaZulu did them dirty.

Prior to the AmaZulu game, Sundowns were on course to break Amakhosi’s record of 21 cleansheets kept in a single season and the least number of goals conceded.

HOW MAMELODI SUNDOWNS CANNOT BREAK TWO KAIZER CHIEFS’ PSL RECORDS

Going into that game, Sundowns had conceded just 10 goals in 27 league games, with Ronwen Williams keeping 17 cleansheets alone.

Chiefs’ record for most cleansheets in a single PSL season stands at 21, while they conceded just 11 goals throught the 2003-04 season, according to OptaJabu.

Now, had Sundowns kept a cleansheet against AmaZulu, they would have taken their tally to 19 cleansheets with two games to go.

That would set them up for the Chiefs record of 21 cleansheets with 10 goals conceded provide they would have not let in any goal in their remaining two league games

However, that’s no longer going to happen this season as they can only reach 20 cleansheets, and not 21 whilst having already conceded 12 goals.
