Mokwena’s contract with Sundowns expires in June, after having signed a three-year deal with them when Pitso Mosimane left for Al Ahly in 2020.

Of course, this was the same time as when Manqoba Mngqithi was handed a new contract, and the pair further recommended that Steve Komphela be roped in.

In 2022, Mokwena was given the head coaching role after the management decided to reshuffle their technical team, and Sundowns have lost just a single game since then.

Now, Motsepe said while it would be appropriate to publicly talk about Mokwena’s contract, there wouldn’t be a reason not to keep him at Sundowns beyond June.

MOTSEPE ADDRESSES MOKWENA’S FUTURE AT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

“I don’t think it would be the right thing to speak about a coach’s contract in the public space. But what I will say is we are incredibly proud of the work he does at this football club. He knows that he is loved and appreciated, both by the club and our supporters,” Motsepe told SABC Sport.

“As in business and in life, your contract is something that we want to take care of in the right and correct manner – and we are confident that we will. I don’t think there would be any reason why we wouldn’t want to keep a coach as young, talented and as promising as coach Rulani and as good a human being as he is,” added Motsepe.

MOKWENA’S RECORD SINCE ASSUMING THE ROLE OF HEAD COACH AT SUNDOWNS

Mokwena, 36, has been in charge of 27 matches across all competitions since assuming the role of head coach at Sundowns.
