Mamelodi Sundowns begin their MTN8 journey this afternoon when they host Swallows FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Rhulani Mokwena’s side will undoubtedly be aiming for the treble this season, and that starts with winning the MTN8.

Last season, the Brazilians were dumped out of the competition at the semi-final stage by rivals Orlando Pirates.

Swallows FC on the other hand return to the MTN8 competition after missing out on in it last season.

Their last appearance came in 2021 when they were knocked out in the semi-finals by Cape Town City FC.

“They are a strong side with good players and we are ready to set aside any obstacles to give our best. Football ultimately belongs to the players because they are the ones on the pitch.

“We have to do the right things at the right time to succeed against our opponents. The team deserves significant credit for the effort they have displayed thus far.

“I am truly excited by the way several players have elevated their game and how seamlessly the new Mamelodi Sundowns signings have become part of the team.

“We expect that these players continue to work as a unit and it can only get better from here. We have to keep striving to improve our performances and the results.”

Mamelodi Sundowns match will be emotional – Komphela

“Our project still needs to hit a positive note and we are facing a very good Mamelodi Sundowns team.” Steve Komphela told SowetanLive.

“We just have to prepare ourselves, looking at what we want to achieve in the project we are building, putting it up against Sundowns. And without coming with ridiculous expectations that we will beat Sundowns and all that.”
