Africa came to a standstill on Sunday evening when Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca faced-off in the African Football League final.

The mega-money tournament, involving eight of the top teams on the continent, reaches the culmination over the next week.

After a cagey opening 40 minutes, Wydad Casablanca broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute through a Rivaldo Coetzee own goal.

Mamelodi Sundowns found an equaliser in the 73rd minute through an Abdelmonem Boutouil penalty kick.

The lead however lasted just three minutes after Anas Seerhat found the back of the net with an incredible long range strike. There were no further goals in Casablanca, with the hosts walking away with a 2-1 victory. The second leg takes place next weekend in Pretoria.

“I am on my knees, and I bow my head every night. I pray and ask God to perform miracles. The same miracles He performed, my prayer to Him is just perform one more.” – Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rhulani Mokwena said as quoted by IOL.

“My prayer is that He resurrects and brings back Lucas (Riberiro Costa), Peter (Shalulile) and Thapelo (Morena) as soon as possible, because for sure, they make a difference.

“It’s the same as when we played Al Ahly (in the Caf Champions League at the beginning of the year), and we created five chances and we (Mamelodi Sundowns) scored all five of those.“
