Mamelodi Sundowns dump ex-Orlando Pirates man

Gift Motupa only played twice for Mamelodi Sundowns this current season, featuring not longer than 25 minutes.

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially parted ways with Gift Motupa, the club confirmed on social media

The 29-year-old joined Masandawana from now defunct Bidvest Wits back in 2020. The attacking midfielder has found it hard to get game time in the four years he has been at Downs.

Motupa only played twice this season, featuring only 25 minutes this campaign.

“Thank you for your service to the club and we wish you all the best! ” Downs said on their X account.

Sundowns announce Motupa’s departure

Motupa made a name for himself at Baroka before joining Orlando Pirates in 2015.

Three years later, he joined Wits where he played the best football of his career before Sundowns came knocking.

This week, the Brazilians also confirmed the signing of Matías Esquivel from Argentine outfit Club Atlético Lanús on a four-and-a-half year deal.

The midfielder joins Sundowns as the second arrival of the mid-season window, following defender Zuko Mdunyelwa who joined in December 2023.

“Esquivel has joined up with his new teammates at Chloorkop as Bafana Ba Style returned from their break to gear up for the second half of the season.”
