Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Vuyo Mere has revealed how he and Lerato Chabangu were was once disciplined by Daniel Mudau.

A MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SOCIALITE AND PARTY ANIMAL

Mere, who plays for TS Galaxy these days, took some time out to chat to the Sowetan about his immature days at Kabo Yellow.

According to the story told by the DStv Premiership legend, Mere was at the height of his bad boy and ill-discipline days while he was playing for Mamelodi Sundowns.

The period was marked by a busy social life in Pretoria and Johannesburg where alcohol, women, and late nights were the range.

The Bloemfontein-born player, who is now a mature 37, revealed that he would often report to training reeking of alcohol and with an obvious hangover.

After getting away with it a few times, Mere and Lerato Chabangu started doing the bad habit a regular thing.

THE DAY VUYO MERE WAS MAN-HANDLED BY MAMBUSH

Daniel Mudau, who was the Mamelodi Sundowns’ team manager at the time, had seen enough of Mere’s unprofessional behaviour.

According to Mere, Mudau called him and Chabangu aside in the dressing room. What happened next was probably the most shocking moment in their careers. Mudau simply laid hands on them in an attempt to stop the drinking.

“Mambush started realising we were coming to training in a wrong state,” Mere said via the Sowetan.

“Yho at some point we got a hiding from Mambush in the dressing room, me and Ace [Chabangu]. He really klapped us grootman.

“Like literally klap, klap. Remember what he did to Charles Motloi?” Mere asked with a laugh.

“I think he had seen enough. I think he believed in us so much. He had seen us going off the rail and wanted to help us before it got out of hand.”
