Sundowns boss coy on want-away midfielder’s future

Mamelodi Sundowns boss Rulani Mokwena remains coy on want-away midfielder Gaston Sirino’s future ahead of the transfer window deadline.

Mamelodi Sundowns boss Rulani Mokwena has decided to remain coy on the future of want-away midfielder Gaston Sirino.

Mokwena was addressing the media regarding Sirino’s future as he has been linked with a move away from from Sundowns.

Media speculation suggested that Sirino was on his way to reunite with former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane in the United Arab Emirates.

SUNDOWNS BOSS COY ON WANT-AWAY MIDFIELDER‘S FUTURE

At the same time, Sirino has also been linked with a move to rivals Kaizer Chiefs since he is starved of regular game time at Sundowns.

After their 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates on Wednesday, Mokwena remained vigilant and said he doesn’t have an update for the media but suggested anything is possible as the transfer deadline is on Friday.

“I would like to leave that to the club,” Mokwena said about Sirino Erwin Saavedra according to Phakaaathi.

“This is a week where I only want to focus on the football and what happens with the preparations, tactics and getting that right.

“I would be lying to you if I said I had an update with regards to Gaston and Saavreda. What I know is that he (Saavreda) is in Bolivia and I had a nice video chat with him.

“It had nothing to do with the club, it was a nice human brother to brother talk but to give you anything on that I would not like to do that and I will leave that space to the football club.”

Furthermore, the 36-year-old manager also addressed the widely publicised links with Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo.

Mokwena said the need for a new recruit was made possible owing to injuries in the final third but admitted there were talks between Sundowns and City for Mayo.

“It (need for new signing) was only necessitated by the injuries in the positions that we had up front,” Mokwena added.

“Those discussions were elevated but I’d like to leave it there. We will see what the window brings tomorrow.

“Do I like games being played while the transfer windows open? To be honest, no. I told my players that the season only starts when the transfer window closes.”
