According to a Masandawana statement on Tuesday, the appointment was made in an effort to raise the bar including a specialist to the Technical Team.

Loftman, who has held various coaching roles as head coach and development coach, holds a UEFA A license from the English FA and a Sports Science & Coaching Masters Degree from Brunel University.

Mamelodi Sundowns next in CAF Champions League action

In his role, he and the performance data analyst will work on the pitch and compile analytic data to provide information to improve an important part of the game.

Sporting Director of Mamelodi Sundowns, Flemming Berg, welcomed Loftman and said “we are very happy to have Michael and add his competencies to the experienced and highly qualified technical team.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will travel to Cameroon this week for their second CAF Champions League match against Coton Sport – and Loftman will travel with the team.

That match will take place on Friday, 17 February at 18:00 (SA time).

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Al-Hilal 1-0 in their opening match at Loftus Versfeld last weekend.
