Mahrez left out of Man City’s pre-season tour

Riyad Mahrez was not included in the Man City squad going to Far East amid reports he is close to joining Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.

Manchester City have left out winger Riyad Mahrez from their pre-season tour to Japan and South Korea.

This comes after reports emerged that he was moving to Al Ahli of the Saudi League this summer.

The 32-year-old Algerian has remained quiet for now but is expected to leave the Citizens now that the club decided not to include him in their pre-season squad.

In his five-year stay with City, Mahrez played a huge part in winning three successive Premier League titles for City and last season, he was part of the squad that secured a treble.

The winger Mahrez has been one of the Premier League’s best players in his nine years in the competition. After being part of the squad that won Leicester City promotion from the Championship in 2013/14, he helped the club retain its top-flight status in 2014/15 before being a key player in the Foxes’ unbelievable title win the next season.

In total, the Algerian national team captain has lifted the Premier League Trophy five times, scoring 82 goals and providing 61 assists in 284 league appearances.

Man, who are without Mahrez, will play Yokohama F. Marinos and Bayern Munich in Tokyo and then face Atletico Madrid in Seoul.

Star player Kevin De Bruyne has been included in the squad despite the hamstring injury he suffered in the UEFA Champions League final victory over Inter Milan.

City looking to bring more players

New signing Mateo Kovacic is also part of the group following his transfer from Chelsea this summer.
