Kaizer Chiefs legend Lucas Radebe believes many things are happening at the club that are derailing their success.

Amakhosi have now gone nine years without winning any silverware.

This is the first time in the club’s history that Chiefs have gone almost a decade without any trophy.

Radebe, who played for Kaizer Chiefs between 1989 and 1994, said the club’s lack of success was worrying.

“Having played for the club, knowing how big a brand it is and not having won a trophy for 10 years, it is worrying,” said Radebe as per Phakaaathi.

“It is concerning for such a big club that they have just dropped like this. The fact that they are not in the Nedbank Cup is a big disappointment for the fans and for the club.”

Lucas Radebe slams Kaizer Chiefs

Chiefs were eliminated from the Nedbank Cup by minnows Milford FC last month.

Radebe believes wrongs are happening at the club that many are unaware of.

“This is what a club strives for – winning trophies and bragging rights. It shows the wrongs that are happening at the club, and there is a lot that is happening that we don’t see, which is a huge problem for me,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs were once the powerhouse of South African football. The 80s were a golden era for Amakhosi as they won almost every trophy that was on offer at the time.

Between 1980-1989, the Glamour Boys won over 20 trophies including three league titles.

Radebe, who played for Kaizer Chiefs for five years, won the league three times with the Soweto giants.

Lucas suspects problems at Amakhosi

His departure in 1994 didn’t hurt Amakhosi as they continued their success into the PSL era.

Lucas Radebe is one of the many former Kaizer Chiefs players who has spoken out against the club’s lack of success.
