Kaizer Chiefs crashed out of this season’s Nedbank Cup in spectacular fashion on Sunday, losing on penalties to minnows Milford FC.

The defeat ranks (high up) among the biggest ever upsets in South African football.

Despite being the tournament’s record winners with 13 titles, Kaizer Chiefs have also been sent packing on no fewer than SEVEN occasions by non-top flight teams.

According to OptaJabu, the seven sides listed below have all gotten the better of the Glamour Boys since 2009:

2009 – University of Pretoria

2010 – FC Cape Town

2011 – Baroka FC

2015 – Black Leopards

2019 – TS Galaxy

2021 – Richards Bay

2024 – Milford FC

Kaizer Chiefs last lifted the Nedbank Cup trophy in 2013 when they beat SuperSport United 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Stuart Baxter was Amakhosi coach at the time and Bernard Parker scored the only goal of the match in extra-time.

As reported by The South African website, in addition to their early Nedbank Cup exit, Kaizer Chiefs have also been dumped out of the Carling Knockout Cup and the MTN8, leaving the DStv Premiership as their last chance of any silverware this season.
