Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi is set to continue with his role at the club despite his contract coming to an end.

The 52-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current DStv Premiership season.

In recent months, Mngqithi’s future was ‘uncertain’ with reports linking him to Kaizer Chiefs.

The former Golden Arrows joined Sundowns over a decade ago where he served as Pitso Mosimane’s assistant for seven years.

In 2020, Mngqithi was promoted after the departure of Mosimane. He alongside Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela were named Downs co-coaches.

In 2022 however, Mngqithi was demoted to being the senior coach at the club with Mokwena taking over as the head coach of Masandawana.

Football agent Mike Makaab told Gagasi FM that Mngqithi is currently in talks with the Brazilians to renew his contract at the club.

“Manqoba is happy at the club, we have said this all along and now it depends on us coming to an agreement with the club to extend his contract,” said Makaab.”

He said the contract negotiations between Mngqithi and Sundowns were still in the early days, but was only a matter of weeks before they were concluded.

“It’s still early days as far as the negotiations are concerned, but I am hoping that within the next 7 to 14 days, so within the next couple of weeks, we will have more clarity on Manqoba’s future,” Makaab concluded.
