Mthethwa is a sought-after recruit and has been regularly linked with numerous clubs, with recent reports again suggesting that Amakhosi were increasing their pursuit of the 28-year-old Stellenbosch FC star.

In the latest update, FARPost reported that Chiefs have submitted an official bid for the playmaker and are keen to try and get the deal done before the transfer window closes later this month.

This offer has now been openly confirmed Stellenbosch CEO, Rob Benadie, who told SABC Sport that “a few clubs have shown interest, including an offer from Chiefs, but as of today [Saturday], he [Mthethwa] remains firmly with us.”

“There has been a lot of uninformed speculation around the player in the press lately. Mthethwa is a highly valued SFC player that we want to retain,” the CEO added.

Stellies have apparently slapped a R15 million price tag on his head, and it now remains to be seen what offer may have been tabled by Chiefs.

Mthethwa is said to have just under a year left on his contract, with an option to extend, and only time will tell whether Stellies will entertain the latest offer from Amakhosi.

Chiefs would love to have Mthethwa ‘any time’

Coach Molefi Ntseki recently responded to the latest rumours with a few interesting comments that may have supporters sitting up and taking notice.

“It’s normal for a team like Kaizer Chiefs to look for quality players to strengthen the team. The name of [Sibongiseni] Mthethwa is doing the rounds about him coming to Chiefs. And there have been other players spoken about coming to Chiefs,” the coach commented, as quoted by FAR Post.

“The most important thing is that he’s a good quality player. We would love to have him anytime, whenever he’s available, whenever we have the resources to bring him in. But he’s a good player.

“I think the most important thing, like I keep saying, is you don’t close the book. You don’t close the window. If ever you have to get a quality player coming to the club,” added Ntseki. “We’re, and we’ll still be, looking for quality players coming into the club and to strengthen the team.”
