Khune hints at Kaizer Chiefs stay in congratulatory message to Komphela

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has hinted that he will still be at Naturena next season despite media reports stating otherwise.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has hinted that he will still be at Naturena next season despite media reports stating otherwise.

Khune, who has been with Chiefs since he was 12, was reported to be looking for a new challenge while the club was also reported to be in the process of releasing him.

However, it looks like Khune will be staying after all IF his congratulatory text to Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Steve Komphela has anything to go by.

In congratulating Komphela on his first league medal, Khune warned the former Chiefs coach that they will be coming back stronger next season.

And this could mean Khune would be part of the new project that is set to be led by returnee Stuart Baxter.

Khune’s current contract with Chiefs comes to an end on 30 June, and chances of him staying were minimal as per the media reports.

It is also worth mentioning that Chiefs have an option to renew Khune’s contract by one more year; the clause that’s yet to be triggered by the management.

Khune, who turns 34 later this month, is one of the senior players and long-serving members of the current Chiefs squad.

He has been part of the Chiefs first team since 2004 although he only made his professional debut for the club in 2007.
