Willard Katsande says that his Kaizer Chiefs team-mate Khama Billiat needs patience and confidence to get back on the goal trail.

Katsande says he does what he can to instil confidence in the PSL’s highest-paid player, who has netted just once this season.

Billiat is important for Kaizer Chiefs

Fellow Zimbabwean Katsande feels that Billiat brings value to the team beyond goals and assists, but frustration is growing among supporters of the club.

“I know Khama is a big boy, he’s my little brother and I always spend time with him, always telling him how important he is to the club and the setup,” Katsande said.

“I always tell him, ‘You are our spearhead, you are our best player, so you need to know that you are the best. We are coming from five months without playing football, so obviously, there’s a little bit of rust, but what you can do is contribute towards the team.’

“So, at the moment, yes, he’s not getting there where we know him, but look at his contribution to the club and the team, he’s very, very useful and that’s why he’s always selected to play.

“Goals will come, we just need to be patient with him and give him confidence, which is what he needs at the moment, and we will try to put him in a comfortable position whereby all he thinks about is just playing well and helping the team.

“The most important thing, as much as you are a good player, you need to be a team player. So, basically, this guy is a big player but he’s a team player.”

Amakhosi need their man at his best

Kaizer Chiefs head into their crucial match against Mamelodi Sundowns with top-scorer Samir Nurkovic suspended and the man with the second-most goals for the club this term, Leonardo Castro is in doubt through injury.

Zambian striker Lazarous Kambole netted his first goal for the club in their last outing against Stellenbosch FC.

With the title race hotting up, Kaizer Chiefs desperately need the best form of Billiat on the park for the remaining PSL fixtures.

It has been nearly a year since Billiat has hit the back of the net against Amazulu in Durban to open his PSL scoring account. In a difficult 2018/19 campaign, Billiat scored five times and laid on six assists, but he looks set to endure his leanest season in the PSL.
