Kaizer Jr explains Dube’s departure from Chiefs

After his release from Kaizer Chiefs, Austin Dube was unveiled as Richards Bay’s new signing ahead of next season.

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr has explained the departure of Austin Dube.

The 30-year-old defender’s time at Amakhosi came to an end after the club and his representatives agreed to terminate his contract.

Dube signed for Amakhosi from Richards Bay in July 2021 on a three-year deal and made his debut as an 84th minute substitute in a 2-1 win over Baroka FC at FNB Stadium a month later.

“We are sad to see Austin leaving us, but we felt that it was in the best interests of the Club, as well as Austin himself, in terms of the furtherance of his career that we allow him the freedom to pursue other options and opportunities,” said Motaung Jr.

Dube only played 18 matches in two seasons for Chiefs

“Austin has been a model professional during his time with us and we thank him for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs. We all wish him everything of the best,” added Motaung Jr.

Over his two seasons as a Glamour Boy, Dube played 18 matches in the Gold & Black, starting 13 times. He has struggled for game last season only playing two games.

On Friday, Richards Bay unveiled Dube as their new signing ahead of next season. The 30-year-old will aim to help improve the Kwa-Zulu Natal club.

Kaizer Chiefs starts their 2023-24 campaign against Chippa United next month. Then, they face the most daunting task of all, a trip to Loftus where they face the reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Dube’s first game at his old club is against SuperSport United.
