Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing up a move for former youth international Tashreeq Matthews to replace Keagan Dolly in the long term.

LOL: Look away, Khune and Kaizer Chiefs fans

Kaizer Chiefs looking to move on from Dolly?

Keagan Dolly has had an up-and-down time with the Glamour Boys. He racked up 12 goal contributions in his first campaign with the club, a decent return, but has struggled to hit those heights ever since and impose himself on the first team for consistent periods. The former Montpellier man is now 30 years old, and just back from a serious knee injury which he sustained all the way back in April.

Dolly signed a two-year deal in 2021 with an option for a further year. He is now in that extension year and an extension looks unlikely. Former SA youth international Tashreeq Matthews is on their radar as a long-term replacement, according to Soccer-Laduma.

Former Dortmund star Matthews has plenty of European experience

“The interest for (Tashreeq) Matthews has been there from the club. It could have dried up after signing Tebogo Potsane but the technical team has a plan in place on how they could eventually use Matthews if or when he joins Chiefs. Look there are other wingers like Keagan Dolly, Pule Mmodi, George Matlou (attacking midfielder) and Potsane but the advantage of Tashreeq (Matthews) is that he is versatile. Tashreeq is only 23 years old and they feel he would be the right player to take over from Dolly when it is his time to retire. He will be playing and learning from him while at the same time being groomed to take over in that position when the time comes.”
