Kaizer Chiefs won’t be deterred by the mammoth price tag attached to Cape Town City star Khanyisa Mayo.

Kaizer Chiefs still keen on Mayo

Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has made no secret of his admiration for 26-year-old Khanyisa Mayo after going public with his interest on national radio. Talks between Chiefs and Cape Town City have taken place but City chairman John Comitis dug his heels in, insisting the Bafana Bafana isn’t for sale right now. However, according to Soccer-Laduma, Chiefs aren’t ready to give up their pursuit.

Time to break the bank and wage structure?

“Chiefs have made another inquiry with Cape Town City about Khanyisa (Mayo). They really want him for next season. They couldn’t get him at the start of the season but now they want to pull all stops. Of course, it won’t be easy because the Citizens have their own price tag on the player. But they will cross that bridge when they reach there. For now, it is to make sure they have inquired (about the player’s services) using the right channels,” said one source.

Mayo jointly won the Golden Boot last season, along with Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile. Both men bagged 12 goals in the league. The City man is in the mix for the award again this term with nine goals, a tally only currently bettered by Sundowns star Lucas Ribeiro Costa who has 10.

JASOND IS SURPLUS TO REQUIREMENTS

Meanwhile, on the topic of strikers, Soccer-Laduma reckons Amakhosi have no plans for Efmamjjasond Gonzalez next term. The Colombian has featured 11 times for the Glamour Boys and is yet to break his goal-scoring duck.

“Kaizer Chiefs have no plans of holding on to South American striker Jasond Gonzalez, the Siya crew has been informed. Indications are that the club is already making plans for next season, as they look set to finish another campaign without a trophy in the cabinet. And with youth development product Wandile Duba fully part of the first team, Chiefs feel they can do without Gonzalez, as per SuperSport sources in United the know.” said the source.
