Kaizer Chiefs legend Rudolph Gardner Seale says his former club is unlikely to regain its once-dominant position in South African football.

During the 1980s and 1990s, the club had a string of successes, winning numerous trophies. However, since 2010, the club’s fortunes have taken a downward turn.

The 2011/12 season marked the first time that the club failed to win any silverware. While the team did manage to win the league in 2013 and 2015, they have been unable to replicate that success in recent years, going nine years without winning any trophies.

Kaizer Chiefs legend Seale wants Johnson to stay as coach

This season, Kaizer Chiefs has made alterations to its coaching department.

Molefi Ntseki was relieved of his duties after only four months, and Cavin Johnson was brought in as his replacement. Under Johnson’s leadership, the team has displayed promising signs of improvement.

Seale says the club should stick with Johnson for now.

“It wasn’t going to make sense because since Cavin Johnson took over from Molefi Ntseki, the results are not so bad,” he told Kick-Off.

“But at the same time, the results are not so good for Kaizer Chiefs standard, which I doubt will ever be reached. But honestly, there has been some improvement, so for them to go and look for a new coach now would be like starting from the beginning again which is not good for any football club.”

“Because I don’t believe there will ever be a coach who will get Kaizer Chiefs to where it was, Chiefs must just accept whatever achievements they can get at the moment,” said the Amakhosi legend.

Seale said football dynamics have changed, making it difficult for Chiefs to claim four or five trophies each season.
