It’s safe to say that Kaizer Chiefs weren’t good enough against Golden Arrows last time out. How will Arthur Zwane change things up to get a result in the Soweto Derby?

Who plays in central defence for Kaizer Chiefs?
Head coach Zwane faces selection dilemmas all over the pitch. He’ll need to think extra carefully about who plays at right-back to combat the dangerous promptings of Thembinkosi Lorch and Deon Hotto on the Pirates left flank. Will he retain Siyabonga Ngezana who struggled there against Arrows, or draft in Happy Mashiane? Mashiane might be the man for the job. Ngezana is a top player but looks more comfortable in the centre of defence. Perhaps Zitha Kwinika could play on the right and Thabani Dube could drop out for Ngezana? Plenty to ponder for the head coach. He just needs to select the right one.

Then, Zwane will also agonize over whether to recall club skipper Itumeleng Khune, a veteran of 27 Soweto Derbies, or keep faith with Brandon Peterson. Itu could get the nod between the sticks. Meanwhile, in the heart of midfield, Samkelo Zwane is an option to play in place of much-maligned Siyethemba Sithebe, but an occasion of this magnitude might be a risky time to do that. Mdu Shabalala, just 19, is likely going to start.
