Kaizer Chiefs transfer target Monare opens up on uncertain future

Bidvest Wits midfielder Thabang Monare is unsure where he will be playing in the upcoming season, The Citizen reports.

The reported Kaizer Chiefs target is one of many players expected to opt for a move elsewhere instead of moving to Limpopo to join new owners of the Wits franchise, Tshakuma Tsha Mandzivhandila.

With Amakhosi banned from making transfers in the next window as per sanction handed out by Fifa, the future has become even foggier for the 30-year-old.

“At this point I am just focusing on playing for [Wits],” Monare told the publication. “I don’t know where I will end up next season but I still have games to play for Wits and that is my main focus.”

Monare added that the sale of the club came as a complete shock to him and his teammates.

“We were focusing on the lockdown and when it was going to end, and suddenly the focus had also been shifted to the team being sold,” he said.

“No one saw it coming, from players, to club management, to the fans and followers of football in the country. But it is done so we have to shift and focus on the positives. I believe in anything that happens, there is always a positive. We are working hard on winning our remaining games.”

Bowing out on a high 

Wits return to action on Saturday still within a fair shot of bowing out with a piece of silverware.

The Clever Boys meet Mamelodi Sundowns in the second semifinal of the Nedbank Cup in their first match back.

They then take on log leaders Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday in a match that has the potential to bring them within seven points of the top of the league standings, still with a game in hand.

Both matches take place behind closed doors at Orlando Stadium.
