Brandon Peterson was the most noticeable absentee when Molefi Ntseki named his side to take on SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday, 20 July 2023.

Now, it has been revealed that he missed the game due to experiencing a family bereavement.

CHIEFS STAR SUFFERS FAMILY TRAGEDY

Unfortunately, Peterson is dealing with the loss of a family member.

At the time of writing, it is unclear who he lost. All that we know is that it is a close family member and that he could not attend the match as a result.

When announcing their team, they confirmed the reason for Peterson being ruled out of contention.

“We will see Khune replace Brandon Petersen in goal, as Petersen attends to a family bereavement,” Chiefs confirmed.

KHUNE TO STEP UP OR WILL PETERSON RETURN?

In his absence, Amakhosi legend Itumeleng Khune was named.

Peterson is expected to resume his place in goal when he is ready. It remains to be seen how much time Peterson will need. Khune will step up if Peterson is not ready against Mamelodi Sundowns. However, the ball is in Petersons’ court.
