Kaizer Chiefs have made one or two errors in the transfer market lately but can offset that by selling Ashley Du Preez for an enormous profit.

Kaizer Chiefs want 30 big ones for Ashley Du Preez

According to local outlet SoccerLaduma, The Glamour Boys will demand at least R30 million for striker Ashley Du Preez as negotiations advance between Chiefs and Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes. If they can recoup that fee, it would represent a 200% profit on a player who cost R10 million when he moved from Stellenbosch in July of 2022. That’s smart business. The Amakhosi top brass are eager to maximise any revenues to reinvest them in local or foreign talent if they agree on a fee with Vitoria. 26-year-old Du Preez had a stop-start season because of injuries on either side of the international Afcon break. He made 23 appearances in the league with four goals.

A source close to the situation said: “His contract expires next season. Chiefs want to capitalise on his market value while they can. His move to Europe seems imminent.”

ADP is still not the finished article

Since arriving at Naturena in July 2022, it’s still unclear what Ashley Du Preez’s best position is. However, in an injury-hit campaign, he still managed a healthy tally of 23 league appearances with a modest return of four goals and an assist. Since signing for Amakhosi, the 26-year-old has made 59 appearances. In that time he has 15 goals and seven assists.

Amakhosi seal a deal for Sam

Meanwhile, in other transfer news, Amakhosi are inching closer to sealing a deal for Orlando Pirates left-back Bongani Sam. The 26-year-old spent last season on loan with their Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows. An official announcement could be made in the coming days according to UnplayableZA on X.

Most expensive sales for Chiefs

Knowledge Musona remains Chiefs’ most expensive departure. He moved to Hoffenheim in 2011-2012 for a fee of €1.5m. In today’s terms, that’s almost exactly R30 million. Obviously, we can’t be comparing apples and pears form different stages of a wildly-fluctuating market. However, this fee would represent some tidy business on the board’s part.

How would you reinvest the R30 million if Chiefs can pull this deal off? Let us know in the comments.
