Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper wants PSL title before retiring

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has revealed that he wants to win the DStv Premiership title before retiring from football.

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has revealed that he wants to win the DStv Premiership title before retiring from football.

Akpeyi has been in the country since 2015 when he joined Chippa United, and they only time he came close to realising his dream was with Chiefs.

It was during the 2019-20 season when Chiefs topped the standings for over a year but ended up as runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Akpeyi would then be released by Chiefs, and he stayed for almost a season without a club until Swallows FC offered him a short-term deal.

And Akpeyi impressed during the eight games he played, conceding five goals and keeping five cleansheets.

The Nigeria international will remain at Swallows for another season but will they be able to dethrone Sundowns next season?

That’s the biggest question considering that Akpeyi is already in the twilight of his football career.

FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS GOALKEEPER AKPEYI YEARNS FOR PSL TITLE

“I still believe I still want to win the league,. I’m looking for that opportunity to be in a team where everybody’s dream is to win the league not just to compete,” Akpeyi told FARPost.

“My plans are open, I opt to be in an environment where there is competition. I still hope that the mindset is to compete for the new season.

“Swallows FC was not on my mind, I wasn’t thinking that it’s a club I will go to.

“I needed an environment where I can play and get back to the game before anything comes up. It wasn’t a plan.
