Stuart Baxter: It’s a shame that SuperSport United fired Kaitano Tembo

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has commented on the sacking of ‘friend and colleague’ Kaitano Tembo by SuperSport United.

Tembo was shown the exit door this week following a string of poor results under his watch, especially since the start of the year.

Matsatsantsa’s 3-2 defeat to GladAfrica Championship side Tshakhuma FC in the Nedbank Cup was the straw the broke the camel’s back.

SuperSport United have since appointed Andre Arendse as their interim coach until the end of the current season as the search for a permanent coach continues.

Baxter said it’s a shame that Tembo, whom he worked with as his assistant at SuperSport United, had to leave his post.

Furthermore, Baxter admitted he doesn’t know if Chiefs will face a fired-up or a demoralised SuperSport United team on Saturday afternoon.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is at 19:30.

He added that firing a coach on the eve of a competitive game can either benefit or not benefit a team.

“People usually say you don’t want to play against a team that has just changed a coach because no matter what, there will be an effect,” Baxter told reporters.

“And that’s because Kaitano is both a friend and colleague, it is a shame that he had to leave his post,” he added.

“Sometimes the club benefits or doesn’t benefit, the pros and cons of that one I don’t know.

“Whether we will find a fired-up SuperSport or a SuperSport in disarray, we should just concentrate on our game to be honest,” concluded Baxter.
