Kaizer Chiefs star suffers freak injury, AFCON in doubt!

A key Kaizer Chiefs star has suffered a freak injury which could rule him out of Bafana Bafana’s upcoming AFCON campaign

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa faces a nervy recovery ahead of the upcoming 2023 AFCON.

The midfield workhorse suffered a ‘freak’ injury in training and is currently awaiting the results of his x-rays and scans.

According to the latest reports, his participation at AFCON which begins on 13 January 2024 in the Ivory Coast is now in doubt!

“‘Ox’” had an injury at training. He hurt his ankle, freak of an accident, and we sent him for X-rays and things like that,” Cavin Johnson told FARPost.

“He [Mthethwa] came back, and according to the Chiefs medical team he has to stay out for a little bit. Whether he will be back for AFCON or ready for the next game, I cannot say.”

We have enough quality – Johnson

“Look I think we have enough quality in the team, I just think they have not been given enough opportunities as individuals and I think the way we assess them, or the way we analyse them as part of the Chiefs family,” Johnson told iDiskiTimes

“I think that needs to be a little better between myself and my coaching staff. Because then we can give them more, they can be more positive towards themselves.

“If you did come to Kaizer Chiefs as an average player, then we will make you a better player. I think we need to get in their skin right now and there are good players.”
