Kwinika confident Chiefs can rise again

Amakhosi lost to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 second leg semi-final in controversial circumstances. It put paid to their hopes of winning a piece of silverware in the calendar year of 2023.

“To be honest with you, I’m very happy with the performance of the boys,” said Kwinika.

“You see sometimes when you are not realistic in a way, without fooling anyone, I’m very happy with the performance of the boys – the way we are getting together, we are creating chances, it’s just lady luck.

“We are in the process and we trust everything will be okay. We are sticking together and one day we will have a different conversation about this one.”

Kaizer Chiefs trophy drought continues

The Glamour Boys will have to watch from the sidelines as Sundowns and Orlando Pirates contest the MTN8 final. Kwinika was part of the Chiefs team which won the MTN8 in 2014. He knows what the club needs to start winning again.

“Winning is always ultimate and the important part of it is the process,” said Kwinika, who returned to the club at the beginning of last season from Stellenbosch FC.

“How we do it, how we train, how we transfer to the game – that is a process. The winning is at the end. What is important is for us to do what we need to do to get the results because in football there is a win, a draw and there is a loss.

“Not all the time you would win games but we wish to get that which is not possible. But what is important it’s us doing the small things properly to stand a chance to get there.”

Chiefs already chasing Sundowns shadow in the league

The Brazilians are setting a typically breakneck speed, winning their first eight matches. They’re already streaking away from the chasing pack, while Chiefs remain languishing in sixth, some 13 points behind the champions. Nothing but a win against Cape Town City on Wednesday evening will do. We could see a full debut for new midfield general Sibongiseni Mthethwa.
