What a horrible incident. Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Fleurs has lost his life after he was shot dead by hijackers in Johannesburg.

Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Fleurs has lost his life. The 24-year-old central defender was shot during a hijacking in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 3 April.

According to the leading iDiskiTimes reporter, Lorenz Kohler, Fleurs was murdered on Wednesday during a hijacking. “Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs has tragically passed after being shot during a hijacking,” Kohler said about the Chiefs player.”I cannot believe this after seeing him a few days ago, incredibly sad moment, my heartfelt condolences to his loved ones,” he added.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi have finally released an official statement about the Mitchells Plain-born star.

“It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that Kaizer Chiefs player, Luke Fleurs tragically lost his life last night during a hijacking incident in Johannesburg. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. The SAPS are handling the matter and further details will be communicated in due course. May his dear soul rest in peace,” Amakhosi said.

The former Ubuntu FC and SuperSport United star was yet to make his debut as a Chiefs player. He signed for Amakhosi in October 2023. He wore the Bafana Bafana jersey on three occasions, while he also had appearances as a junior international for the South African under-17 team.

Cape Town City FC have become the first club to pass condolences to the fallen Chiefs player. “We are saddened to learn of the passing of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs. Our deepest sympathies go out to Fleurs’ family, friends, and the broader South African football community during this difficult time,” the club said.

Golden Arrows also sent a note to the family of the fallen Chiefs player: “We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Kaizer Chief defender Luke Fleurs, to his family, friends and everyone at Kaizer Chiefs. We at Lamontville Golden Arrows send our deepest sympathy and condolences on the news of his passing. May his soul rest in peace 🕊️.”

The Minister of Sports and Culture, Zizi Kodwa said: “I am saddened by the passing of @KaizerChiefs
defender and former junior international Luke Fleurs. I am saddened that yet another life has been cut short due to violent crime. My thoughts are with the Fleurs and Amakhosi family, and the entire South African football fraternity.”
