Kaizer Chiefs are on course for their worst ever finish to a PSL top-flight season after slumping to yet another shock defeat on Sunday.
The Glamour Boys went down 1-0 to struggling Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
The Soweto giants stayed 10th in the 16-team log with 30 points after 24 (of 30) matches.
Since the PSL era kicked off in the 1996/1997 season, Kaizer Chiefs have finished no worse than ninth (on three occasions).
Those seasons were 2001/2002, 2006/2007 and 2018/2019.
Four-time champions
In the 27 completed seasons to date, Kaizer Chiefs have clinched the title on four occasions.
With the title out of their grasp for another season, Amakhosi will turn their attention to claiming a top-eight finish in order to secure an MTN8 berth next season.
Don’t bet on that happening!
Four of Kaizer Chiefs’ remaining matches are home fixtures, although the date and kick-off time of their clash against TS Galaxy is yet to be confirmed.
Three of Amakhosi’s remaining matches are against teams currently ranked higher than them, and three against teams below in the standings.
